This paper discusses three evidentiary issues that arose during a court case observation. The court case was trying to decide whether or not a woman's parental rights should be terminated for her children. During the case, the defendant was trying to show that she could be a good parental figure, while the plaintiff was showing that the mother was not able to provide for the children. For these three evidentiary issues, the judge that was presiding was Honorable Scott Sparks. The three issues dealt with hearsay, relevance, and a compound question. For each of these issues, there will be a discussion of the Federal Rule of Evidence that is implicated, the judge’s ruling on the issue, and whether or not the ruling was appropriate by comparing it to the Federal Rules of Evidence. Each issue will be explained in detail with context of the conversation to show how it happened in the court case.
