In the poem, “Very Large Moth” by Craig Arnold, the author is trying to convey that we must cherish all life no matter how big or small it is. When the narrator in the poem turns the lights on in the kitchen and sees this black figure flying about and the first thing that pops into his mind is a bat! Later on when the black figure lands on the stove the narrator figures out that it is a huge moth that is actually brown. He then uses a plastic shopping bag to capture it and set it free outside. The tone of this poem is ambivalent, the narrator is having mixed emotions on what to do till the last stanza when the tone shifts to amusement.
