I remember my discovery of reading like it just happened yesterday. I remember picking out this “cool”-looking book from the small bookshelf, bringing it back to my desk, and sitting down to quietly read it. I remember my eyes being glued to the words of this book, unable to stop turning the pages as the teacher’s voice drones out as she is teaching her lesson for the day. This is my first memory of reading; I remember it so vividly because it is a part of who I am forever. Little did I know, the book that I selected based on solely the cover, would change my life forever. This book seemed like it was begging to be read. And I did, and I do not regret it because this book turned out to be my favorite book up to this day. I am eighteen today; I picked up this book when I was a ten-year-old. So, what is this book you ask? It was a fantasy literature book called The Forests of Silence, the first installment of a series called Deltora Quest. I would go on to read the remaining seven installments in the series after finishing The Forests of Silence. While everyone else read the cliché Harry Potter series, I was attracted to a far less popular series. To each their own. “Gio, Gio, Gio. Hey Gio, are you paying attention?” Ms. Curley asked. Ms. Curley was my awesome fifth-grade teacher, an older woman that was always so kind and enthusiastic; everyone in the school liked her.
