CHAPTER FOUR

Chris and Rose stumbled through dark passageways and menacing corridors. Chris began to notice that the cave went from heated rock to molded metal. He figured they were headed toward the monsters instead of away. He turned to tell Rose.

“I think we’re going the wrong way.”

“What makes you say that?” She replied.

“This floor isn’t a natural formation.”

Her eyes widened, “You don’t suppose…”

She was cut off by the sound of a sword leaving its scabbard.
Chris swung his in an arc over her head. It met resistance but not long.

Rose turned around. The monster or what use to be one lay sprawled on the ground its head clean of its shoulders. Chris examined it closer and discovered it didn’t bleed nor did it

Not even dumb luck could have saved him from that.

“I guess now we are even.” Rose gave one of her consistent smiles.

“Have to…… Have to keep moving. They know….. They know we are here.”

Rose helped Chris up and over to the coats. She crammed the coats into his backpack and slung it around her shoulders.
She grabbed the sheath of one of the creatures and strapped it around her waist. She grabbed one for Chris too and together half walked half limped back into the darkness once more.

“What are you doing here?” Timothy asked.

“Me?! What are you doing here?” Dalton exclaimed.

“I always come here after school.” Tim answered.

“But you don’t go here anymore.”

“No, but I come to pray for this school.” Tim answered.

“Pray?”

“Yeah.”

“Is that some sort of Christian thing?”

“Do you have something against Christians?”

“I lost my best friend to one!” Dalton exclaimed. He was really heated
