The article I chose from the university library was basically along the same lines as my last one but it was a little bit different. This article is talking about Nidal Malik Hasan, whose trial started this Tuesday for the now admittedly shooting on November 5, 2009 in Fort Hood Texas where 13 were killed and more then 30 injured. This article talks about first hand accounts of what has been going on in the court room. The article talks about how Hasan is representing himself after dismissing his legal team twice and refusing the help of the 3 other lawyers he has on standby in case he changes his mind. It then goes on to talk about one of the 3 lawyers, Lt. Col. Kris Poppe spoke to Col. Tara Osborn, who is the judge for Hasan’s trial, about the fact that Hasan is basically doing everything he can to receive the death penalty and making sure that there are no obstacles that stand in his way. Hasan objected to the judge stating what Poppe was saying was “A twist of facts.” After that Hasan asked the judge numerous times to have permission to explain why Poppe was incorrect with what he was saying but would not do so in writing. Osborn eventually cleared the courtroom to discuss the issue at hand and no witnesses were brought into the courtroom that day.
