Go create something – an ambiguous statement that leaves interpretation entirely up to the imagination. In reflecting upon the type of technologies we use daily, and how something can be created with them. Although people today use several types of technology, one thing boldly stood out in my mind, the Crock-Pot. This technology revolutionized convenience in American home cooking. The result of this study produced an amazing family meal, centrally focused on a savory Au Jus style Pot Roast, primarily cooked by using a Crock-Pot.

Various forms of skillets and pans have existed ever since mankind learned that fire could be used to cook food. In ancient Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome, they all had various names, and in the early-19th century they used a cast-iron cooking pan that stood on three legs used for placement over coals or fire, this pan was commonly known in that era as the ‘spider’. When the cooking stove was invented in the mid-19th century, so were the first ‘legless’ cooking pans (Wikipedia.org, 2014). The Crock-Pot however, has a much shorter history; the first Crock-Pot was released in 1971 by the Rival Company. In 1970 Rival purchased the rights to the Naxon Beanery All-Purpose cooker invented by Irving Naxon (BeyoneBubbie). They modified and upgraded the original metal container device, to a ceramic or porcelain insert that was placed inside a metal housing unit with heating elements and temperature control, added the glass lid design and called it the Crock-Pot. After several modifications they released a model in 1974 with removable inserts for storage and re-heating options. This design is very similar to the Crock-Pots used in American homes today.
