Crohn’s Disease Report
Crohn’s disease is one of the many inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) present today. Inflammatory bowel diseases are long-lasting and affect the digestive tract through inflammation. This particular disease is usually present in the ileum (end part of the small intestine) and in the first part of the colon (large intestine). However, it can appear in any part of the digestive tract and can skip to different areas (leaving some parts affected and others normal). Crohn’s leads to other problems such as ulcers and bowel obstructions and can even lead to colon cancer. Crohn’s disease merely affects the digestive system. This system is responsible for taking in food, digesting it, and gets rid of the waste. It consists of the accessory organs and the digestive tract (mouth, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, and the anus). Crohn’s disease can develop in any parts of the digestive tract. The inflammation occurs when the immune system attacks the healthy tissues, leaving them damaged. Since this disease is chronic, it lasts for a long time and can affect digestion and/or excretion of the waste. *

Surprisingly, as of now, medical professionals have been unable to find the exact contributing factors that lead to this disease. All presented theories have not be proven, however, scientists think that it is a mixture of immune system complications, heredity, and environmental factors. Age is not a concerning, valid factor as Crohn’s can affect people of all ages, but is usually present in young adults.
