METH: IN THE WORLD
Lisa was a typical 17 year old girl with good grades and good self esteem. She enjoyed hanging out with her friends. One weekend Lisa and her friend Jane decided to try something new. Both girls have never done any form of drug before, but the first one they tried was meth. It does not affect them at first, but after five minutes it started to affect them. They feel different and they like the feeling. Every weekend she starts using meth and eventually started using other drugs. After one month of using drugs, there is a big difference in Lisa. According to authors Stacy Bashford and Kristine Krapp in their book Methamphetamine, “Methamphetamine is a stimulant, chemically related to amphetamine.” It is a powerful stimulant that can affect the central nervous system. In the article “What is Crystal Meth?” Christian Nordqvist stated that some names of crystal meth are “ice, tina, and grass.” It is ordinarily white and can be smoked, taken orally, or injected. This drug can be addictive. Estimated that 4.7 million people have tried Methamphetamine. (Blachford and Krapp) Schools have begun to notice that this drug has become a problem. In the book Methamphetamine by Hal Marcovitz, he states that “teachers looked over their classrooms and see empty seats, their students were missing school because of drug abuse” (7). Meth is not addictive itself, but the user's himself find it addicting (31). Some psychological effects of methamphetamine are: alertness, anxiety, concentration, irritability and many more (Nordqvist). Not only psychological effects play in there are physical effects as well. Some of these physical effects are: Anorexia, flushing, dry mouth/meth mouth and dizziness (Nordquist). Meth mouth is a long term effect from meth use. Meth mouth is when addicts have considerable risks of having their teeth fall out. Crystal meth can affect the society as well. Meth users are aggressive, high alert, and continuously active.
