The official language of Cuba is Spanish and it's commonly referred to as Cubano. Cubano is "Cuban Spanish". Cuban Spanish is also the most popular language in Cuba and has an estimated 11 million native speakers. Cuban Spanish originated from the Canary Islands in Spain. In the 19th and 20th century there was a mass migration of Spanish immigrants from this area to Cuba which contributed to the growth of the language. Despite Cuban Spanish being the official language, there are other languages and dialects that are also spoken. Cuban Spanish is very is similar to other Caribbean dialects of Spanish such as Andalusian speech, which is a type of speech named after the Andalusian region in Spain where it originated.
