Since the beginning of time, the relationship between men and women has always consisted of the men in a higher standing than women. Women had to follow the ideas of the Cult of True Womanhood, which were piety, purity, submissiveness, and domesticity. Men could to do as they please whether it was being a rake, a complete gentleman or anything in between. Society followed the primogeniture and coverture ideals which made women even lower in society than men. Few women stepped outside of these constraints to take on the untraditional roles within society and to bring light to women, their rights, they're treatment and how society viewed them. Marie de France, Aphra Behn and Fanny Fern each brought a new light to the societal views of the relationships of men and women. …show more content…
