Cultural Discourse Journal #3 Colonialism can best be defined as "the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically".
People often see colonialism for simply its negative aspects such as war, lives lost, and sacrifices made. Through these tribulations, however, colonialism has impacted performances throughout the years, specifically Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical Hamilton. Beginning, Hamilton is the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of America's Founding Fathers, and his climb to the top in the midst of the war between the new United States and the British. Through Alexander's standpoint, the audience is shown how he contributed to the war.
