Rachels proposes the theory of cultural relativism. He says that there is no objective truth in ethics. His idea is that moral judgments are relative to a particular culture. There are different societies in the world who have different cultures. These different cultures have different moral codes. Something moral in one culture would be immoral in another culture. Therefore there is no objective truth in morality.

The moral code of our very own society has no unique status, it just like the others, one among many. This would then mean that there is no universal ultimate truth that is for everyone. The moral code for a society will tell if an act is moral or immoral , its its right or wrong. We, as of one society cannot judge another societies

These values are seen by different societies as moral together, involuntarily, and therefore recognized as shared values. For Rachels, there is no universal truth. For those who believe in such a concept, Rachels says whats your reason and justification?

I do not ageee with Race's idea about cultural relativism. Just because different societies get together and create such customs and cultures, does not mean that that's all there is. Societies have different cultures so they can remain unique, have their identity, can come close together, feel safer, and remember their ancestors. They carry out customs that were carried out by their ancestors. Some societies are male-dominant societies and carry out intolerant and unjust customs like FGM. This doesn't mean they would be considered morally correct because it is within their society norm .

There are other things that are considered to immoral despite people's society norms. For example murder and rape is considered to be wrong. You would not consider that to be morally right, because it is a society norm. In some countries, wives are forced into sexual activity, but it considered to be completely normal. In other countries honor killings take place, mostly females, and society accepts it as morally
