Cursive is a controversial topic and many people have opposing thoughts towards it. Cursive has been taught for many years throughout elementary schools, and not everybody agrees with it.
I believe cursive being a requirement for children to learn is necessary. Stated in Cursive Is a Powerful Brain Tool, it says "psychologists found students learned more if they handwrote notes instead of typing them. They believe this is because writing by hand helps students process material better." In my own experience, I have found writing by hand helps you remember what you are writing because you are reading and saying it as you go. When you type something, you are not really focusing on the information, you are more so focused on typing.
