Paul Bogard’s “Let There Be Dark” is written to inspire the reader to have a desire to want to preserve the night. One literally device Bogard utilizes is hyberbole; this when person describes something calling it something. When a hyperbole is used it is typically used with these words “like” or “as.” An example of this would be in paragraph four, “Ecological light pollution is like the bulldozer of the night” the use of like tells the reader the he is using a hyperbole. The reason he describes it to a bulldozer is because the light destroys the beauty of night in the same way a bulldozer ruins things in its path.
