Cyntonia Brown who was only 16 when she was convicted of murdering the man that hired her for sex. Although she testified that she killed him in self-defense after being sold by an abusive boyfriend from escaping an abusive home, she got a life sentence without the possibility of parole. But she is not the only one and there is problems with this. The United States is the only country which sentences people, juveniles, to prison to die, and although they are tried as an adult, they do not have all the same constitutional rights as one. The do not have the right to bail or to a public trial. They do, however, have some extra protections in the court system. Unlike a goal of the adult criminal case, a juvenile goal is so he/she can go one to live a productive life. Appropriate action in the form of rehabilitation will be issued if he juvenile is found to be a delinquent. Punishing the defendant is taken in action in an adult criminal system. This harshness to children is immoral. This is the entitlement children are given. It is not justified for adults to be given possibilities of parole if they were say convicted of murder or rape or even robbery when a juvenile, who is treated and punished as an adult, not given that opportunity. They should be given the opportunity to appear before a parole board to say they have deserve a second chance because they understand what they did was wrong. The United States spends billions of dollars on prisons and its inmates, but instead of doing that, why not make detention programs to rehabilitate the juvenile offenders. For a child, prison is near like being in an abusive home. There is consequences on the child and the society. If children grow up to learn from their mistakes, then locking them up with other actual adult criminals will change that course of
