D'raulairs' Book of Greek Myths is, of course, about the Greek myths of the gods. From the birth of the gods, to the conflicts between them and them trying to outsmart each other. Two of which stories are my favorites and are the most interesting. Zeus, son of Rhea, was the only child saved from his monstrous father, Cronus, he knew that one of his offspring would grow to be stronger than him and oppose him. To prevent this from ever happening, every time his wife, gave birth to a newborn child, he took the babe and swallow it whole. This happened five times and Rhea mourned for her lost children, thinking she will never have a child. Her five sisters, who married the other five Titans, had many children, while poor Rhea was left alone. When Rhea was expecting her sixth child, afraid that Cronus too, would eat this child, she asked Mother Earth for help. Mother Earth was waiting for this because she was angry with Cronus for abandoning his brothers in the darkest pit on earth,Tartarus. Mother earth told Rhea what to do and gave her great hope. From the goat, Amaltheia, flowed from his horns, ambrosia, and nectar, the drink of the gods. Zeus grew rapidly and soon walked out of the cave as a new god. From the hide of the magic goat, he made an impenetrable, making Zeus so strong that Cronus could do nothing to him. But he couldn't do it alone, so he chose a Titan's daughter, Metis, for his first wife. Zeus sent her to give Cronus a magic herb and to trick him into thinking it was an herb to make him unconquerable. Instead, it made him vomit up the stone and his five other children. They were the gods and goddesses, Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera, and they immediately joined forces with Zeus. Cronus knew his day had come and he fled, surrendering his powers forever.
