Few groups completely change genres and styles multiple times. Very few revolutionize the style and become the biggest name for that style. Each time Daft Punk changed, they became the biggest name in each style. The duo, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, first met each other in 1987 while in a secondary school in Paris. After secondary school the duo formed a rock band, but the band lasted less than a year and it soon broke up. However, Thomas and Guy-Manuel stayed together and formed Daft Punk. The duo changed direction and style completely and started to experiment with electronic music by using synthesizers and computers. These are the first two layers in the song and can be heard throughout the piece. The volume of these lines increase immediately after Giorgio says: “Because all I really wanted to do is music – and not only play music but compose music.” The excerpt continues until he states his name and then the synths and electronics take over. The music following the excerpt is layered with a four-on-the-floor drum beat with snare hits on 2 and 4. On top of this is the bass line and lead arpeggiating synthesizer line; these two lines continue throughout the piece. The song does not follow any normal form pattern, but instead introduces new ideas and adds the ideas on like layers. Each new idea adds a new sound to the layer and fits in perfectly to the chordal structure of the other layers. The song is filled with new ideas and instrument combinations that are rarely heard together and it keeps the listener listening for more. Each of the layers and ideas adds to the line and flow of the song and it makes the listener hear how each layer compliments the others to form a seamless line of
