The first event which first portrays Dallas’ raucous attitude is shown when he assists Ponyboy and Johnny when they kill Bob Brown. Dally’s prominent characteristic as the malicious Greaser drives Ponyboy and Johnny into believing that he is a callous person as he “looked as hard as nails and twice as tough” (Hinton 26). Dally’s tough exterior is confirmed during the visit with Dally when Johnny killed the Soc in which Dallas “handed us [Ponyboy and Johnny] a gun and a roll of bills” (Hinton 60). When Dallas is told that Johnny killed the Soc, Dally “only grinned and said “Good for you”” (Hinton 59). Dallas acquires a different perspective towards the situation of murder.
