Daoism In Ancient China

For this topic, the geographic region that I choose to discuss is ancient china, since I am from china, which makes me know more about this region’s background. The religious philosophies that I chooses is Daoism. The Daoism is one of the most important religious philosophies in china history, and it has been developed most prosperous in the Song dynasty and Tang dynasty. and dominant china for a lone history for a really long time. The originator of Daoism or we can say the most contribute people of Daoism should be LAOZI. He is a very famous philosopher in the ancient China. The main idea of Daoism is “wu-wei”, which can be simply understood as: let the things happened naturally, and do not excessive interference it. Here is the example from the textbook: if you make too many prohibit, people will fear of it. The most important work of Daoism is “Tao Te Ching”, which is writing by LAOZI. Because it does not fit the ideology. the ruler should rule the country by using his heart, rather than using the law. The exist of will break the nature, or what we call “wu”. And also because of this ideology, it make the society in Song dynast more free and loosen than other dynast. Moreover, the ways that the king to govern the country will also affected by the ideology. For instance: in the number 17 from the Tao Te Ching said: “The best leaders are in harmony with their followers. The next best are those who are respected” which point out that the king should treat their subject humane, rather than using the cruel law to restrict their mind and
