In “Casey at Bat”, Casey wanted to wait until the very last pitch to “save” the game. In the poem it even states that the crowd thought Casey would save the game. In “David and Goliath”, David had one shot and he knew it so he went right into kill Goliath. David used more of a dive-right-in tactic while Casey tried to look like a hero and waited until the last pitch to strike. The third way that these two guys are different is from their differing personalities. Casey is a very vivid and more cocky character than David is. David is more quiet and kept to himself, but does have a lot of talent inside of him. In the poem you can see Casey’s personality come out when he says that the first pitch was “not his style”.
