It has become common today to dismiss the linkage between fast food and diabetes. According to obesity.org, the obesity rate in children ages 12-19 has hit an all-time high. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) Data shows that obesity is around 14% higher in ages 12-19, dating back from 1971. I agree with David Zinczenko author of “Don’t Blame the Eater,” when he states that fast foods “…were the only available options for an American kid to get an affordable meal.” In making this comment, Zinczenko urges us to look beyond obesity, and rather into the economic state of the working class in America. The problem with fast food is that they often promote their meals without stating the nutritional values in each item.
