The men were so immature and could not compromise on the two sides. The two Southerners fought and couldn’t make a constitutional choice, and this was a reason for the Civil War to start. Document L explains the decision in the Dred Scott case, “it is the opinion of this court that the Act of Congress (the Missouri Compromise) which prohibited a citizen from holding and owning property of this kind (slaves) in the territory north of the line therein mentioned, is not warranted by the Constitution, and is therefore void.” The White House is meant to make constitutional choices and decide what is right and what is wrong. The Missouri Compromise was meant to get rid of any slaves in the country which favored the North because they did not need slaves to keep up their working economy while the South needed slaves to provide for themselves. Congress failed to make an equal compromise for the North and South states, this led to the progression of the Civil War. Document J depicts a map that shows the fights between the Kansas and Nebraska territories.
