A lot of people claim that mansa musa went on his trip for religious reasons but that’s not the reason why. Mansa Musa went on his pilgrimage for other reasons. Mansa Musa very clearly made his long journey to Mecca mainly for the reason to get more fame because he took a longer route, disregarded the koran, and didn’t listen to the Koran again. Mansa Musa did not go to mecca for only religious purposes. Mansa Musa took the long route by going up north to Taghaza, Walata, and Tuwat to get more fame in those cities. The shorter route would have been to go through Niani, Timbuktu and Takedda (Document B).
