The Sepoy Rebellion was caused by the Indians wanting a better, justified government and allowed Britain to take over and rule them. The Indians thought the British could help them in fixing their government; they were wrong, which then resulted in rebellion. One of the governors of India, Lord Dalhousie, created the “Doctrine Of Lapse” which was a policy that allowed the British East India Company to extended their control to the India territory when a native ruler died. (Reading Like a Historian Document E). One of the cities that was taken over was Oudh which was one of the richest cities in India. By doing this India became part of the East Africa Company, in which the ruling was completely different then the way Indians originally had.
