The main character of the book is Gary, whose nickname is Blacky. The book is about interracial friendships, football and family.

Darcy gives Gary very good advice whenever Gary needs it. Gary feels calm whilst talking to Darcy because it just makes him forget everything else in the world and takes in the great advice from Darcy. Gary feels comfortable around Darcy and usually discusses things that are worrying him whether it’s about his social life or a girl.
