FAMILY BACKGROUND

Dean J. Ottaway was born November 20, 1925 in Binghamton NY. His parents were John Ottaway and Elizabeth (Beers). John worked as a farmer and a mill supplier. John was described as a quiet and kind man, along with a hard worker. Elizabeth worked as a homemaker, and she was described as beautiful and dedicated to her family. Growing up Dean was very close to his father, and stated that he had a quite but pleasant relationship with his mother. Dean had one brother Jack Ottaway who passed serving in World War II. Both of his parents passed of natural causes as they began to age. Dean grew up in Port Crane NY, which is a rural community. The two met at a dance in Star Lake NY. Dean was sitting at a small restaurant with a tiny dance floor and a single record player. He looked across the room at spotted Dorothy for the first time, and she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He stood up and asked her to dance and he states: “it’s all ancient history after that”. They were together for 60 year, and Dean says he couldn’t have picked a more wonderful person to raise a family with. Dorothy worked as a hair dresser, but she enjoyed being a mother and homemaker much more. Dorothy use to have a garden full of different colored roses, they were her favorite flower. Dean even to this day has one of her roses pressed and in a frame sitting on his windowsill. Dean describes Dorothy as unbelievably beautiful, loving, and incredible in everyway. He says: “he still can’t believe how lucky he got when he found her”. The two had an extremely loving relationship with one another. They had four children together three daughters; Leann, Debbie, and Michelle, and one son Michael all of which are still alive and well. Debbie is his own child still residing in New York currently she is living on her father’s property. His oldest daughter Leann makes quits for a living. Their third child Michelle teaches music down at a school in Florida. And their only son Michael works with a jewelry company and travels the worlds buying jewelry designs from …show more content…
He finds comfort when he is talking about his family and his past adventures in his life. To him his greatest accomplishments in his life are his family. He is a very pleasant man, and is very positive and happy. Dean also enjoys talking about his time in the military. He enjoys talking to anyone that he can, and he likes to make everyone feel at home in his presenents. Dean is participating in activities and enjoying the music based ones the best. He does not have a music preference he just enjoys any kind that he is able to listen to. Dean played the drums throughout his time in school, and then joined a band after his time in the service. He is using the call bell appropriately, is appreciative of his care, and is sleeping well. Dean is here for LTC, he is a DNR, and his HCP is currently in place. He is incredibly happy to be here on the Maple neighborhood. Dean’s daughter Debbie believes that her father has been suffering with depression since the death of his wife, 11 years ago. And she states her father is currently showing signs for both Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Admitting diagnosis includes: A-FIB w/Rapid Ventricular Response, Anemia with Elevated MCV, Anorexia, ASHD, BPH (developing urinary retention), CAD without Angina, Cardiovascular disease, h/o Cellulites of Right lower limb, Constipation, Depression, HTN, Kidney Disease, Osteoporosis, Prostate CA, s/p Right hip
