The opening of the second paragraph of the declaration of independence has many promises to the citizens of America. In American society today those promises were met and some disregarded. America today does not meet the promises of the declaration of independence. The first line states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...” In my opinion, I believe that the United States did not live up to that promise. For example, there is still a gender pay gap in America. The white house stated that full time working women earn 77% of what their male counterparts earn.
