Why We Fantasize
When we fantasize, we are imagining situations that are outside of our reality, but describe certain desires and wants you might have, be it, consciously or unconsciously. Fantasies tend to exemplify or show things that are far beyond what you might be able to acquire in reality, things that are highly unlikely and sometimes unattainable. A sexual Fantasy, by definition according to the medical dictionary is a “Private mental imagery associated with explicitly erotic feelings, accompanied by physiologic response to sexual arousal.” Sexual fantasies are experienced from puberty on, and by both genders. According to Block, these partners can be absolutely anyone; ranging from your own partner, a stranger, your ideal partner to even a relative, or your best friends spouse, it can be very taboo. Dr. Block calls this type of sexual fantasy, “The Perfect Lover” fantasy. These fantasies, could involve, simple kissing to intense sexual acts, oral sex, anal, passionate, yet innocent sexual intercourse and rough sex. It all might depend on what you yearn for. Some people want to experience and imagine something a little different than what they experience regularly. So for instance, if you and your partner go through sex without very many changes; without spicing it up a little bit. Dominance and submission “fantasies may involve sadomasochism (S/M), bondage and discipline (B/D), an imagined abduction, a fantasy “rape,” spanking, whipping, tickling, torture, teasing, body worship and a host of other activities that may or may not entail actual sexual intercourse.” (Block, 2013, Para. 25). It’s not too hard to understand why people have these fantasies; people enjoy dominating as well as being dominated, power is a rush for people, having physical dominance and control over others sends an indescribable rush. But why might a person want to submit? Why might a person fantasize about being taken advantage of, or being whipped, smacked or even raped?
