Albert Camus once said that “success is defined by one’s accomplishments made while faced with the absurdity of life.” Life is difficult and ridiculous, and doing something worthwhile with the constant onslaught of life’s obstacles is certainly a success. I would define success as a combination of endurance in the face of life, making meaningful accomplishments, and creating a character that leaves those around you better off. During someone’s life, he or she might realize that life is inherently meaningless and that, in the end, we do not have a preordained purpose here. When faced with the realization that we are just flecks of dust in the wind, one either pushes forward with determination and gusto to bring their own meaning and purpose to life, or one stops and refuses to move forward. These accomplishments are very important component of success because they affect how the world will deem your success after you are gone. Achievements like starting a charity or helping build a hospital are great feats that are part and parcel of a successful life, and the future will recognize that.
