The world is always changing, and only those who can adapt to those changes can succeed. With hard work and dedication anything is possible, but sometimes a little extra help can go a long way. It’s not always lack of willpower that keeps people from obtaining their dreams; it’s financial need. Organizations like the Hispanic Scholarship Fund help students get passed this barrier, and accomplish all the goals they have set for themselves. For over seventy years, HSF has helped Latino students pursue a higher education and flourish in the career they choose. The goal of this non-profit organization is to not only provide financial aid, but also to provide Latino families with the knowledge needed to so complete all their educational and career goals. This year, Denis Benitez, along with many successful Latinos in the United States, will be inducted into the HSF Alumni Hall of Fame.
Today, Benitez is a dedicated general surgeon that wishes to make a greater impact on the world, but before becoming a surgeon Benitez went down long road filled with barriers and uncertainty. Our lives are composed of various events and experiences that help shape who we are. Some events may seem insignificant, but small events help make huge changes. Challenges are part of these changes; “The biggest challenge I have encountered in my life is one that I faced everyday and I learned to live with, the uncertainty” says Benitez. “Being a DACA student in an ever changing world, was the greatest challenge in my life”.
