The Dentzel Carousel in Highland Park offers a unique and nostalgic ride for all residents and visitors of Meridian, Mississippi. The Carousel and the Shelter House are both National Historic Landmarks, with the carousel building also from an original Dentzel blueprint.
Built in 1896 by Gustav Dentzel for the 1904 St. Louis Exposition, the carousel was later sold and shipped to Meridian. Since 1909, the Dentzel Carousel has been providing fun and exciting rides to both children and adults of Meridian. In 1987, the Carousel was declared a National Historic Landmark. The Highland Park Dentzel Carousel is currently the only one remaining two-story stationary Dentzel carousel in the world.
