ARCHITECTURAL SCIENCE
FALL 2014 NON-ACADEMIC EVALUATION SESSION
The Bachelor of Architectural Science degree is a four year undergraduate program. The Department of
Architectural Science’s Selection Committee reviews and evaluates each applicant’s non-academic work for entry into the program.
Applicants residing within a 400 kilometer radius of Ryerson University (downtown Toronto) must attend one of our Evaluation Sessions held in the Architecture Building at Ryerson University.
Applicants residing more than 400 kilometers from Ryerson University must refer to our Long Distance
Applicant Procedure. These applicants have the option to attend an on-campus evaluation session if they prefer. Each year, in February and March, we schedule Evaluation Sessions at which applicants submit portfolios of their creative work for evaluation by the Selection Committee. While portfolios are being evaluated, applicants are required to complete time-limited writing and sketch exercises.

What should I bring to the Evaluation Session? i A portfolio of work: a collection of your own creative work that highlights and demonstrates the range and variety of your creative interests, abilities and talents. Details on portfolio format and contents are provided below. Ensure all your creative work is secured within your portfolio. Your portfolio will be returned to you at the end of the session. ii
One piece of Government Photo Identification (i.e. Passport, Driver’s Licence, etc.).

A signed and completed copy of the “Statement of Authorship & Guarantor’s Statement of
Authenticity” must accompany your portfolio. If you do not include this Statement of
Authorship and Guarantor’s Statement of Authenticity, you will not be registered in the session and your application will be cancelled. Examples of a guarantor include a teacher, lawyer, physician, religious leader or your employer. They must be familiar with you and with the work that you are submitting. A family member cannot be a guarantor. Do not fasten / glue or tape the “Statement of Authorship” to your portfolio.

A one page summary of your academic, extracurricular activities and interests must be included in your portfolio. Do not include original certificates or transcripts.

How long does each session last?
The average length of a session is approximately three hours. There are three sessions each day; one in the morning, one in the early afternoon, and one in the late afternoon extending into the early evening.

What will I be asked to do at the Evaluation Session?
You will be asked to complete a reading and writing exercise, and a sketch exercise. These exercises provide the Committee with an indication of your writing and graphic communication skills. All the necessary tools and paper will be provided. In summary, your portfolio and these exercises comprise the non-academic requirements for the admission selection process.

How and when can I register for an Evaluation Session?
An invitation letter will be placed in your Choose>Ryerson Applicant Portal by Undergraduate
Admissions and Recruitment. To register for a session, you must book an appointment through our website at www.arch.ryerson.ca/registration Note: you will not be able to register until you’ve received an invitation letter. Your electronic registration will be confirmed via e-mail. We recommend you book as soon as you receive a letter, as sessions have a limited capacity.
