4. Diagnosis:
The clinical criteria: clinically compatible manifestation found in patients is the great belief for the diagnosis.
Laboratory:
Dermatomyositis is confirmed by analyzing of serum muscle enzyme, EMG findings and muscle biopsy.
The most sensitive enzyme is Creatinine kinase(CK), CK is always elevated in patients with active dermatomyositis.
Needle EMG performs myopathic potentials, measures the speed and strength of signals traveling between two or more points. Its results reveals the nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction, or signal transduction problems between nerve and muscle.
Muscle biopsy is sensitive and specific test for establishing the diagnosis for inflammatory myopathy and for excluding other neuromuscular diseases. Differential diagnosis of dermatomyositis: Muscle diseases: Acute myopathy – Acute viral or bacterial infections Familial idiopathic
