Because of his accomplishments, he was rated ESPN's No. 2 fullback nationally. In 2008, Coleman went to college at UCLA, where he majored in political science. He had limited playing time during his first two years, but during his junior year, Coleman played in 11 games and was ranked second in gaining yards. In his senior year, Coleman won the Prothro Award and also received the coaching staff’s Paul I. Wellman Memorial Award for All Around-Excellence. Even with putting up concrete numbers in college, Coleman wasn’t chosen for the 2012 NFL draft. In August 2012, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks, making Coleman the third deaf man to play in the NFL and the first deaf offensive player. He was a part of the Seahawks' Super Bowl XLVIII championship team, becoming the first deaf player to play in the Super Bowl. The Seahawks also went to the Super Bowl in 2015; however Coleman was injured and did not play. His comeback to anyone who was rude was to ignore them or turn the volume down on his hearing aids.
