When putting the instrument together the bell which is where the sound comes out screws on to the slide and then there is another hole where the mouthpiece goes. The next step is to try to blow warm air throughout the instrument to get adjusted to it. Take the mouthpiece off the instrument and put it against the lips, and try to keep the lips together and try to make a buzzing sound this is what causes sound once the mouthpiece is put back on to the slide.
Once buzzing feels comfortable try putting the mouthpiece back on and do the same thing with the mouthpiece back on.
