Presidential Succession Act of 1947, established the presidential line of succession, which is the process of determining who will act as President in case of an emergency, death, resignation, or impeachment, of a President in office. The Cabinet is an important part of the presidential line of succession, because they are the successors to the presidency in case the president is unable to complete his duty due to an extenuating circumstance.
