Describe the stages of the slave trade and what made the trade unique. Why did people engage in this trade and what is the overall legacy of the trade in United States history? When doing this question think about the life of a slave trade and slave, from their paint the picture of the trade and what occurred on both sides and in both places and what was the final conclusion. When thinking of the Enlightenment, and then the Great Awakening, what caused these movements to take hold in American society? What is the impact of this on the colonies?
The first stage of the slave trade was European Slave traders going to Africa and buying captured Africans from other African people due to war in exchange for goods or brandy. Then they would send the slaves, taken from their villages, through the dangerous Middle Passage to the New World in overcrowded ships. After the slaves reached the New World, anyone who survived were sold to colonies. Once the slaves were gone, the ships would take all of the harvested goods and transport them back to Europe. …show more content…
People engaged in the slave trade because slavery was an easy way to get labor and gain profit. Slaves were seen as less than human in some cases and they were insignificant enough to be another person’s property. The legacy slave trade left is the financial development of North America, Europe, and other developing countries and left Africa poor and
