Q: As an educator how would you begin to build trust with an infant in your care? Give an example of an interaction that displays one of the 3Rs (Respect, Reciprocal, Responsive). So far in this course I have come to understand that trust is very important between infant/toddler and caretaker. Since many children spend much of their day in child care settings, it’s important for attachment relationships to include adults other than just parents. Children can love and become attached to more than one adult. Children thrive in environments that foster attachment through consistent and loving care. This is why child care providers, in addition to parents, are also encouraged to form attachments with the children in their care. As a future care taker I will try to establish trust by listening and catering to a child’s wants and needs the best way I can.
Childcare Example
A toddler wants to cut his own fruit for snack. I say no. He stamps his feet and sobs. I come up with another idea: I give him a dull butter knife and guide his hand to help him cut some melon. This toddler is learning that his interests and needs are important and what it feels like to be understood by another person
