Giver Ending Essay The ending of The Giver is very confusing to me because it never clarifies if Jonas and Gabriel really make it to elsewhere or freeze to death due to the cold atmosphere. Jonas and Gabriel were not properly dressed for the cold conditions, so them surviving is very rare. Gabriel and Jonas were already starving from hunger and Jonas was weak because he broke his ankle. There is a very little chance that Jonas stayed alive because no one his age and that weak could keep themselves alive and take care of someone else.
They never really made it to elsewhere because elsewhere doesn’t really exist. It was all a hallucination Jonas had right before he died. This is true because in chapter 16 The Giver gives Jonas his favorite
