22, 1949 in New York City. Diana Nyad was a elite swimmer in high school. After graduating from college she opened some eyes by swimming 28 miles around
Manhattan in less than eight hours. In 1978, she attempted her first swim from Havana to Key West, and after 42 hours, strong currents forced her to stop her swim. The next year Diana set a record for swimming 102 miles from Bimini, Bahamas, to Juno

This is one of Nyad’s most famous endurance swims, but it took her five attempts until she finally completed it. One thing I respected the most out of Diana is that she never gave up. In her failed attempts there were many factors that stopped her from achieving her dream. In one of her attempts from Cuba to Florida she was forced to stop her swim due to an asthma attack. In her third attempt she was also forced to stop after
41 hours due to jellyfish stings. In her final failed attempt she had to stop her swim again due to bad weather and jellyfish stings. Preparing for her swim was very difficult because they needed to have good weather conditions and they also needed to make sure the currents were perfect and not to strong. This shows that Diana Nyad is strong willed and is motivated. Diana Nyad’s fifth and final attempt was when she finally achieved her goal.
August 31, 2013 is the day she started her swim and on September 2, 2013 she completed the swim from Cuba to Florida. It took Diana Nyad 53 hours to complete
