The diction of the group of men talking to Atticus, Jem, Scout, and Dill or the way the group of men are described shows how intimidating and stubborn the group of men are to Atticus and kids. For example, in the novel To Kill A mockingbird by

For example in the book, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, when Scout says, “ This was the second time I heard Atticus ask that question in two days, and it meant somebody’s man would get jumped...I...ran as fast as I could to Atticus.”(Lee 202-203). Scout’s diction shows that she is excited about the argument that Atticus is about to start with the men. She knew that when Atticus used this diction before that it meant that he was going to try to make this group of men leave, but in reality she didn’t understand fully how dangerous the current conversation was for her and that she shouldn’t be there, which is why Atticus left her and Jem at the house. The big group of men was at the jailhouse, whom she didn’t even know, was there to go and hurt Tom Robinson, which is why they knew that Atticus was going to be at the jailhouse and how they came prepared for everything even the way Atticus would try to reason with them because they were determined to not let anyone keep the entire group’s goal and not let anyone of the men in the group to start to linger from their goal as a group. Another example of the conflict with the men is when Scouts states, “ I thought he would have a fine surprise, but his face killed my joy. The tone scout uses to express Atticus face of fear shows that even Atticus was scared to put himself to confronting the men and even more when he saw that his own children and their friend were there because he knew that this group of men had one objective and they were being hard headed to not let Atticus keep anyone from the group from change their mind. Atticus knew that when this group of men saw his children, that they were going to make him leave by making him
