Art is an ugly person with a great personality that only a few will ever value. An artist will stop and stare at every piece they see to find the piece of soul left there by its creator. Artists from far and wide create art for eyes that will never really see it, but art must be made and must be seen. Artists who create art that challenges stigmas and social constructs, while living through events in the world, continue to rise and prove their art can change people’s views. Artists like Diego Rivera who created beautiful art that brought recognition to the working class and native people of Mexico. “. Rivera wanted to make art that reflected the lives of the working class and native peoples of Mexico” (MoMA 2006). With Cubism, Rivera was different from his fellow artists by adding more color and creating his art on a larger scale than most. He even used textured surfaces to create a variety in his art, while still adding references to his native heritage. In 1916, Rivera unveiled one of his cubism pieces called “Motherhood Angelina and the Child”, which was based on his first wife, Angelina Beloff who was also an artist, and their first son, who sadly died few months after his birth. The painting portrays the mother breast feeding their child, while using the cubism style of art to slightly mask their faces. Not only is it done with vivid colors, but it also does a remarkable job at making sure there is no improper representation or space to degrade the art form. Cubism itself is meant to reject the norms of basic methods of viewing art. It essentially breaks up the subject of the art and reassembles it in an abstract form.
