On the one hand, many people may disagree with this statement and that women won the vote due to their hard work fighting peacefully and violently. Suffragist groups existed all over the country named the suffragists and the suffragettes. The suffragists aim was to achieve the right to vote for women through constitutional and peaceful means. There were regional groups and especially in urban areas including Manchester, which held large public meetings and petitions locally. In 1897 formed The National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies or also known as the NUWSS who were constitutional in their approach. This meant that it campaigned peacefully and used recognised ‘political’ ways such as persuading the parliament and collecting signatures for their petitions. This concluded to problems which were soon resolved and soon advertisements were published lots of propaganda which was plastered all over the streets, they gave the message that women could fulfil the roles of men just as well. This gradually developed the respect men had for all women, especially after the survival of Britain at the end of the First World War. The public grew to understand the importance and necessity of equality in society. It would make life much more simplicity and developed bonds between members of society. Two campaigns soon developed to increase the chances of getting the vote and were named, The suffragists and The Suffragettes.
