From what I have read, after the winter of 1620 the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag Indians were in need of each other’s help. The winter had left the colonists without food and outnumbered, while the Indians were in need of weapons, which the colonist had. They formed a relation where the Indians tough the colonist about fishing, planting and hunting. In 1621, the Pilgrims had their first successful harvest and as a celebration they organized a feast, where they invited the allied Indians. The feast lasted 3 days, which is now known as the First Thanksgiving. The next thanksgiving celebration was held by the Pilgrims in 1623, after the end of a long drought.
