Oliver Cromwell’s New Model Army was designed differently from any other army of the time period, the differences in design created an opportunity for the army to devastate Ireland in a very short period of time. The New Model Army, commanded by Oliver Cromwell, managed to ravage its way across the island in a mere 9 months. The fighting continued for years’ afterword, spanning from 1649 to 1653. The New Model Army were heavily motivated through the politics back home and their religion. The army also consisted of solely paid, full time soldiers, unlike the groups they were fighting.
