A few of the important things I noted while watching the lecture and the YouTube videos was it is important to follow the lead of the host and other attendees. As Cathryn said some cultures have different customs and you should pay attention to these details while dining. If the host is using their hands to eat certain foods you may also do the same. If your host chooses a particular food you might want to pick something similar. You could also ask the host or other attendees their recommendations if they have ever eaten at that establishment. …show more content…
One thing that was discussed in the lecture was to not pick a messy food like spaghetti. It is really hard to eat spaghetti without looking like a slob. Another big no-no was to not order too many drinks. It’s ok to order one or two drinks but know your limits. Alcohol is great but so is your reputation, as Cathryn said it takes a long time to build a reputation and get to know someone.
Some of the minor details that I picked up on in the lecture were that you should pick up your drink by the stem. It helps the beverage stay cool. Also, the top of the glass is “sacred” and should only be touch by your mouth! If you have a fork and spoon at the head of your plate you are in for some dessert. Another good piece of advice was that your glasses will always be on the right so be sure not to drink someone else’s glass. I learned that even the most minor details matter like your plate and silverware should be an inch from the table
