With the invention of television, more than 50 million of them were in households by the 1960s and being watched on a daily basis. This lead to a competition with the already declining movie industry and television networks. Since the film industry was not doing well after the WWII, the studios, such as Disney, had empty sets and studios that were not making any money while they weren’t being used.
