I choose Dispositional Flexibility as my concept to write on. This concept stuck out to me the most because through this lesson I have realized this is a weak area for me. So much so that it is noticed by not just my subordinates and peers, but by my supervision and even my family. Through this lesson, I have learned how important it is to have less of a pessimistic attitude and more dispositional flexibility. This kind of attitude is bad for morale and when morale is low things tend to not work smoothly. What is dispositional flexibility? you may ask. A leader that has dispositional flexibility is one that is grounded in realism and openness and stays optimistic. This means that a leader with this trait will acknowledge bad situations and at the same time hold on to a positive outlook for the future. I need to be genuine and lead by example by being honest and showing authenticity. I must accept change as a positive and find the benefits of the change. At the same time, I must remember that I cannot control everything. Involving key people in the design and implementation will bring about fresh ideas. Rehearsing is a good way to learn new skills and behaviors as well as making the unfamiliar familiar. By jumping right in I immerse myself in a new situation and meet the people and learn a new situation. I can be a mentor and teach new people. This allows me to set expectations and guide new people on how to meet them. While developing dispositional flexibility I must remember to pay attention to life beyond work. By switching between work and home life I can practice flexibility. Finally, like with anything I must seek feedback whether it is positive or negative. Feedback will show me what I am doing good and bad and by using that information I can continue to improve my dispositional flexibility and
