For the people that never recover the missing parts, I feel sorry for them. They have no control over the amnesia. I hope that I never go through that. I would feel crazy or lost because I wouldn’t know anything that is going on. That feeling would freak me out.
The Encyclopedia of Mental Disorders lists five different patterns of memory loss that has been reported in patients with dissociative amnesia. The first one is:
Localized. The patient cannot recall events that took place within a limited period of time (usually several hours or 1–2 days) following a traumatic event. The second pattern is selective. The patient can remember some, but not all of the events that took place during a limited period of time. The third is generalized. The person cannot recall anything in his/her entire life. The next pattern is continuous. The amnesia covers the entire period without interruption from a traumatic event in the past to the present. The final pattern of memory loss is systematized. There probably never will be a cure for dissociative amnesia, because of the cause of dissociative amnesia. There is no cure for any type of memory loss that scientists have found yet. I wish there was a cure for all types of memory loss. Not being able to remember anything would be really upsetting. It would feel like your life was taken away. I feel like people couldn’t even socialize without a memory. In the end, dissociative amnesia is not very common. Therefore, I am not all that concerned. I hope that anyone that becomes diagnosed with dissociative amnesia is treated carefully and correctly by a psychologist to regain their
