The Missing Raven Factions believed in one thing and one thing only “faction before blood” (Burger). The movie, Divergent, is directed by Neil Burger in 2014. The movie is told from the perspective of Beatrice Prior. The society in which she is born in is saved by several individuals. A fence protects them from external danger, without realizing that danger is already planted within. In this world people are divided by factions. Beatrice is in Abnegation, she is in a faction in which everyone acts selflessly. She knows that she does not belong there as she discovers that she is nothing like anyone around her. Divergent is what she is and is something that is persecuted by few people who feel threatened by the unique difference. Beatrice is faced with challenges in such a short time and must confront them. She must find inner strength to protect her loved ones and fight to stay alive.
It is the day of the aptitude test and Beatrice really hopes that the test will tell her who she is. Beatrice is raised in a family of Abnegation also known for being selfless. Beatrice never felt that she belonged there, but on the other hand her brother was the most selfless person she had ever met including her parents. When it is Beatrice turn to take the test she had no idea what to expect. Beatrice goes through various obstacles during the simulation. Her result is inconclusive. She is Abnegation, Erudite and Dauntless making her a Divergent. Beatrice is warned that she would not be safe so she had to keep her result to herself. The night before the choosing ceremony Caleb reminds Beatrice that she has to think about the family, but also about herself. This makes Beatrice wonder what Caleb will choose. The next day, Beatrice has to decide what to do with her life. Not knowing where she belongs, Beatrice takes her chances to become part of the Dauntless family. Dauntless are known for their bravery and determination. In the other hand her brother Caleb decided to join Erudite who are known for their knowledge.
As Beatrice arrive to Dauntless she notice things were not going to be easy. She no longer is called Beatrice but, Tris. She wants a new figure for herself, she wants to be brave. Dauntless is made up of three stages that are intended to prepare the initiates physically, emotionally, and mentally. During one of the stages Tris stands up for one of her friends, Al who later in the movies betrays her. In this scene she demonstrates braveness because she has no idea if Four will actually hurt her. This is where Tris and Four began their connection. During one of the stages Tris losses her fight with Molly, and this causes her to be cut out of Dauntless. Not being part of a faction makes you a factionless. Tris would rather die than be factionless; Tris ends up catching up with the others initiatives and goes into the shooting range with them. During the shooting game Tris finds out that Four is afraid of heights, making her wonder what else he might be scared of. Tris proves herself to everyone, by capturing the other team’s flag. This proves that Tris is welling to overcome fears and keep going. After, the game Tris is invited to the Dauntless initiation ritual where she starts feeling like part of the family. Dauntless travel to Abnegation to collect food. It has been a while since Tris has not talked to her family, but when she encounters her mom, she is informed with bad news. Tris is told that she has to be careful during stage two because Erudite are looking for Divergent. Tris wonders why her mother knew so much information about Dauntless. During her first simulation Tris is put in her fear landscape which is a field full of black ravens. Four watches how she overcomes her fear and wonder how she could take such actions. After, Tris admitted to Four that she is a Divergent, Four
